Hollywood & Glendale 06/28/08

Today was a beautiful day that the Lord had made and I rejoice and i'm glad in Him. I started off the day by sending out an email to my team that I will be leading during the July Ambassador's Academy and then after getting out the door late I stopped by Dru Morgan's house to pick up my new LivingWaters million dollar gospel tracts and then headed out to Hollywood to do some open air preaching and hand out gospel tracts with the hope of having conversations with people for the purpose of sharing the Gospel with them.

When I got there I used the underground parking that is provided just north of Hollywood Blvd on the west side of Highland Ave. You get your ticket as you pull in and then as soon as you walk through the mall you go straight to the Los Angeles Visitor Information booth and have them validate your ticket. I end up paying only $2.00 at the window near the escalator instead of the usual $10.00. As I was walking up the guy behind the counter already had the stamp ready. There is no need to purchase anything and I was soon off to my favorite street corner.

When I arrived to my destination there was loud music being played so I decided to head across the street where it wasn't as noisey and as soon as I got across the street and started to hand out tracts, the man selling movie star maps told me that this was his corner and that I couldn't be handing anything out because he paid a fee to be there and I had no right to be there, but I kindly told the man that it was a public sidewalk and that I was free to hand out my tracts even though he disagree with what I was doing and I began handing out tracts.

After awhile I got out my amplifier and step stool and began preaching the Gospel to people that would gather at the light. I would start off by telling people that I was handing out Million Dollar Bills and on the back it has the million dollar question. The question is, "Will you goto heaven?" Here is a quick test to see if you will go to heaven. Have you ever lied? Stolen anything? Used God's name as a cuss word? or Looked with lust at a man or woman? Then God sees you as a liar, theif, blasphemer and an adulterer at heart. If God finds you guilty of breaking His law you will end up in hell for eternity. But that's not God's will. God became a man in the person of Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, without sin and died a horrible bloody death on the cross to take upon Himself the punishment you & I deserve for breaking His perfect standard and then Jesus rose from the grave on the third day, defeating death. We broke the law but Jesus paid our fine in full. What Jesus requires of us is that we confess to God that we've sinned against Him and then repent, turn from those sins and put our faith and trust in Jesus alone to save us. Then you will pass from death to life and receive eternal life and a new heart with new desires. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. Thank you for listening.

This went on for about a half hour when two security guards walked up and told me that businesses had been complaining that I was so loud that they were unable to do business. I certainly wasn't any louder than ever time i've been out there before and told them that i was on a public sidewalk and was within my legal right to use amplification. They disagreed and we both agreed to disagree but I decided to not get into an arguement with them and told them that I would move to the corner across the street since I had done plenty at the corner I was at already and besides, there were more people at the other corner. I mentioned my friend Tony Miano and the ministry that he founded called and suggested that they visit the site.

I moved across the street and Jackie who attends Shepherd of the Hills in Porter Ranch showed up to help hand out gospel tracts. She leads a group on the west side of the Valley and had told Dru that she wanted to come out and help. It was truely a blessing from God to have her there because while I was Open Air Preaching, she was passing out gospel tracts, distracting hecklers in the crowd and engaging several people in conversation using the bible for reference.

On my way to Glendale I picked up a good friend from my church, Gary who wanted to come out and help evangelize and so I was very happy that he wanted to join us in Glendale. We got there and Tony was open air preaching and me and Gary greeted other evangelist that were there and then got out our gospel tracts and started handing them out. Some wouldn't take them and others wanted more. The new million dollar bill that LivingWaters is selling on their website is now my favorite tract to hand out. I started up several conversations with people and shared the law & grace with atleast 4 people and handed out about a hundred tracts.

Greg and Tony both open air preached a couple of times and also engaged people in conversation. Since I have been open air preaching so much on Hollywood I spent my time in Glendale this evening having one-2-one conversations. God has blessed us richly with many opportunites to share the Good News of good things. I remember when me, Tony and Mike first went out to Glendale where Tony Open Air Preached, that I was thinking to myself that this might not be such a great idea but i'm glad I was wrong and since that first time we've been out on Glendale Blvd. every Saturday night proclaiming the Good News. Praise be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! Amen.

Shepherd Crash Course Update

Today was Shepherd of the Hills One Day Crash Course on Evangelism lead by Dru Morgan with the support of Shawn Walden. I've been blessed to help Dru with two One Day Crash Courses at Shepherd and also attended the last week of a crash course that Dru lead as I was getting involved in Evangelism after repenting of my sins and by faith putting my trust in Jesus alone for my salvation. I want to thank Pastor Dudley C. Rutherford and the rest of the associate pasters of Shepherd of the Hills for allowing us to present the Way of the Master Crash Course at the beautiful church in Porter Ranch, California.

Shepherd of the Hills Evangelism Crash Course

What a joy it was to be involved with Shepherd's One Day Evangelism Crash Course on Saturday where 18 people showed up for the class. Those that attended the class were given free "Way of the Master" books with Hell's Best Kept Secret CD in the back plus a workbook that helped them follow along with the course of the class. People who attended asked many questions and all of them were addressed biblically with meekness and reverance for God's word.

Shepherd of the Hills Evangelism Crash Course

It shouldn't be a big surprise that from a large church that few actually want to attend an Evangelism class because Jesus said the the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Jesus made it clear that those who would preach the Gospel would be few and Jesus tells us to pray the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest. So please make that a daily petition to God through prayer that He would do so.

Tony also spoke during the course encouraging the group to share the Gospel
Shepherd of the Hills Evangelism Crash Course

The teachings that were presented were put together by a man, Ray Comfort who has based his ministry in Belflower, California called LivingWaters and is also featured regularly on TBN. The foundational teachings of Way of the Master are Hell's Best Kept Secret & True and False Conversion. These sermons can be viewed or listented to online for free, either on the ministries web site or and . Type in Way of the Master in the youtube search box and you'll be able to watch all the episodes that are available for purchase on the LivingWaters web site.

The purpose of the this Crash Course is to challenge and equip people to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that it is appointed for us once to die but after this comes judgement (Hebrews 9:27). If we love God and love people as much as we love ourselves then we will warn people that not only has God appointed a time for us to die but that if do not repent from our sins and by faith put our trust in Jesus alone for our salvation then we will spend eternity in hell. The bad news is that we've broken God's law but the Good News is that Jesus paid the fine for those who would believe.

So at the end of the Crash Course we decided it was too hot to goto Hollywood & Highland Ave to StopLight Preach as we normally do every Saturday from 12pm - 3pm so we offered everyone in the class the opportunity to come out and simply watch Tony draw a crowd using trivia questions, starting in the natural and then sharing the Gospel, swinging to the spiritual conversation. Out of the 18 people that attended the class, only 2 people came out to Glendale. The two men that came out where Eric and Frank who were from a church near by.

Tony "The Lawman" Open Air Preaching - Glendale, California

That evening at about 6:30pm Tony, Greg and a few others from Last Words Ministry showed up and started handing out tracts and soon began open air preaching, Tony got up on the box and began with trivia questions, offereing people $1.00 for answering a trivia question. People love money and the challenge to get the answer right and there is humor and laughter while doing this. The purpose is to start in the natural and then swing to the spiritual. This method of evangelism which is called Open Air Preaching is biblical because Jesus open air preached, so did Paul and other apostles also did as well. We draw a crowd by starting in the natural realm and then swing to the spiritual when we bring up the things of God.

Dru and two of the Crash Course participants showed up and then I decided to get up on the box and preach the gospel is a different way that I normally do for a couple of reasons. One reason was that I simply wanted to use a different approach and also to show others that were new to this type of preaching that you don't have to use a strict, 1,2,3 method of Open Air Preaching. I love to speak the word of God because I know that God's word doesn't return void and that God's word accomplishes what pleases Him. I didn't share with excellence of speach, nor did I preach with cleverness and there was trembling in my words. I didn't draw a big crowd but I noticed certain people that were listening intently at what i was saying and as long as I had their attention I was going to boldly preach the word of God. At one point my emotions got the better of me and I began to weep as I begged people to consider what I was saying and open their bibles to see if what I was saying was true.

Eric Open Air Preaching - Glendale, California

After I got off the box. Eric who is apart of the Mens Ministry at As You Are Church had just attended the One Day Crash Course wanted to get up on the box and what an amazing job he did as he was able to quickly draw a crowd and take a lady through the good person test while many others listened. You would have thought Eric had done this many times out there on the streets.

Frank Open Air Preaching - Glendale, California

I was amazed and full of joy that God had answered prayer by increasing the workers of the harvest by atleast two that day, because Frank was next up on the box and this guy really has a strong voice. Frank is the Executive Pastor of As You Are Church so I was blessed to hear him also give an excellent presentation of the Gospel as he took another young lady through the good person test. It was a great night of fellowship, proclamation of the Gospel and several people that were taken through the entire Gospel message shook several hands with our team, thanking us for taking the time to share with them.

Frank Open Air Preaching - Glendale, California

Another thing I wanted to mention was that Dru brought out his mobile ice chest with soda's and water in them and offered them as optional prizes for correct answers to trivia questions. As the evening ended several people received free drinks just for being close by and people received gospel tracts to read with their refreshing drinks on a hot, dry evening in Glendale, California.

So remember that we are out in Glendale, California every Saturday night from 6:00pm till atleast 9:00pm sharing the Good News. Anyone that is new to this type of evangelism or does this regularly is welcomed to join us. We are always willing to encourage and equip any follower of Jesus Christ with free tracts, prayer and guidance to proclaim the Good News.

What are we doing with the gift?

What will God do with us if we do nothing with what we believe He has given us?

"But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money" (Matthew 25:18)

bury treasure

What is the amazing gift that God has given to those who have repented and put their trust in Jesus alone for their salvation? Forgiveness of Sin, Saved from Eternity in the Lake of Fire, Eternal life in heaven with our Creator, right?

So if instead of sharing the knowledge of the amazing gift of grace, we bury it away in our mind and deliberately avoid telling others because we don't want to offend anyone or make ourselves feel uncomfortable.

What does such a professing Christian say to God once it is appointed for him or her to stand before God?

"And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, 'Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed. 'And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.' (Matthew 25:24-25)

What do you think God should say to a professing Christian that makes no effort to share the Good News?

"But his master answered and said to him, 'You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed. 'Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest." (Matthew 25:26-27)

What should God do with the gift of eternal life that was offered to the professing Christian?

"Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.' "For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away." (Matthew 25:28-29)

And what will God do with the professing Christian that has beared no spiritual fruit?

"Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 25:30)

Jesus talked about the tares & the wheat, the goats and the sheep, the bad fish and the good fish. The false converts and the true converts.

Jesus told His followers, "Behold!" when sharing the parable of the sower of the seed" Jesus wanted those who were listening to observe with care and said, "Do you not understand this parable? How will you understand all the parables?" (Mark 4:13)

If we don't understand the parable that Jesus spoke about in Matthew 13:3-52, Mark 4:3-34, Luke 8:4-18, how will we understand any of Jesus's other parables?

Look at what Jesus said in the Gospel of Luke.

"But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance. "Now no one after lighting a lamp covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see the light. "For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. "So take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him." (Luke 8:15-18)

So after reading Jesus own words I'm reminded of 2 Corinthians 13:5,

"Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test?"

Goto where Ray Comfort has created a booklet that is free online to read that helps us examine ourselves and encourage us.

Evangelism at Shepherd of the Hills Church

A good friend of mine Dru Morgan attends Shepherd of the Hills in Porter Ranch, California and he is a fellow evangelist that shares the Gospel of Jesus Christ whenever possible. Either one-2-one or through Open Air Preaching and also through teaching Way of the Master classes at Shepherd of the Hills and weekly bible studies at his home.

Shepherd of the Hills

On the weekend of June 14-15 Dru asked me if I would promote the Evangelism One Day Crash Course during the Saturday services because Dru was a team leader for the Ambassador's Academy that weekend and would be busy with his team for the final day of the Academy that equips Christians to share the Gospel biblically the way Jesus did.

So i felt it was an honor for Dru to ask me to man the booth so I had previously purchased tracts and books for the promotion of the One Day Crash Course and was hoping I would be at the Church early but unfortunately I was 15 minutes late because I was helping out in Huntington Beach during the final day of the Ambassador's Academy.

Shepherd of the Hills

I quickly setup my table with a wide array of tracts, booklets, Way of the Master books and flyers that Shawn Walden had brought to me shortly after I arrived. With lots of different tracts on the table people spend time at the table looking which gives me time to ask them questions and present the Gospel. Shawn was very helpful and helped me promote the Evangelism Class on Saturday that is coming up this next weekend.

Not My Job

Before and after service I handed out a tract "Not My Job" designed for "Christians" that challenges them to share their faith with others.

Shepherd of the Hills

I had many great conversations with church members and I was able to take a few people through the good person test. The poster board drew people to it with curiosity and were surprised that they couldn't pass the good person test according to God's perfect standard. Compared to others we may be great people but according to God's word, no one is good, not even one (Romans 3:10).

Shepherd of the Hills

Me & Dru showed up Sunday ready to encourage Christians to share their faith. It was amazing time of fellowship and encouragement for us and those who stopped at our booth. There were 3 services Sunday morning so we had many conversations and at least a dozen people filled out the sign up sheet and many more took fliers and were asked to call Kay Norris to RSVP before the date of the class.

Shepherd of the Hills

Of course we didn't wait till Saturday to share with people how they could start up a conversation with someone by simply putting a tract in someones hand, telling them it's a gospel tract and then explain how to swing from the natural to the spiritual. Dru's oldest daughter and Cil Rivera also helped out with handing out tracts, having conversations and taking people through the good person test.

Shepherd of the Hills

By the end of the day both me & Dru were tired from the long weekend and we are definitely both thankful for God allowing us to be used for His glory. Amen.

When the day is over you head back to the Hotel where you enjoy fellowship and testimony. There are details that I have left out to be a surprise for if & when you decided to attend the Academy. The one thing I enjoyed most about the Academy was being around so many brothers & sisters who want to share the biblical truth of God's Word. It is an amazing experience and something I will not forget.

Ambassador's Academy - Testimony

Since attending the Academy and doing Open Air Preaching both in Hollywood & Huntington Beach, i've been going out regularly every Saturday and Open Air Preaching and encouraging others to do the same.

Chris Stoplight Preaching on Hollywood Blvd

Pushing my fear aside and trusting in Jesus Christ finished work on the cross, I am able to do all things through Christ who strengthens me because the righteous are as bold as a lion.

Witnessing on Hollywood Boulevard

One last thing I wanted to mention was that the director of the Ambassador's Academy Tony Miano has asked me to be a Team Leader for the July Academy. I was so moved by him asking me that I literally broke down in tears. I do not deserve the honor of being apart of such a wonderful ministry but my trust is in the Lord and not myself so I've accepted his invitation and will offer my time and resources to the equipping of the saints for the glory of God.

Thanks Tony!
Tony the Lawman

The way that I look at it is that if God can use me then He can use you. If you have repented from your sins and by faith, put your trust in Jesus alone to save you then God is able to use you for His glory. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us and the righteous are as bold as a lion. Never say you can't share the Gospel because we know God's word is truth. God says that we can do all things through His Son, Jesus Christ so it is possible. Stop trusting in your own ability. Focus not on the things that are seen but on the things that are unseen because the things that are seen are temporary but the things that are unseen are eternal. Amen!

Open Air Preaching at the NBA Finals

Staples Center

Well... I got a phone call from the Lawman Tuesday morning telling me that Steve Sanchez, Tatsuo, Tony and a few others were planning on Open Air Preaching at the Staples Center. I was excited and couldn't wait to get down there.

Tony with Giant Money

I was the first one to get there so I kind of walked around alittle and took some pictures and then Tony showed up and we started handing out Giant Money Tracts and Million Dollar Bill tracts. "Big Money for the Big Game" was our approach as people took them with a big smile.

Evangelist - Staples Center

Eventually we met up with Steve Sanchez, Tatsuo and a few more brothers and we went to the front entrance. Before I had time to think about it, Tatsuo got up on the box and was preaching to the line of people waiting to get inside. His voice carries very well and you could hear him clear across the street.

Open Air Preaching to a captive crowd

Tony then jumped up on the box and was greeted with Amen's from one Laker fan near the front of the line and also by threatening remarks from another Laker fan about halfway down the line. Tony finished preaching and we went looking for another spot.

We then moved closer to the front entrance and Tony got up on the box there and shared the Gospel and then after getting off the box he asked me if I wanted to get up on the box and preach and I said, "yeah, alright, I can do it". Here is video of me open air preaching in front of Staples Center.

Towards the end of our stay at the Staples Center, we did some Stoplight Preaching. There was a nice lady giving out newspapers that we talked with for a few minutes and then when I got up on the box and started Stoplight Preaching she told me I was blocking her stack of newspapers and that I was too loud and that I should move.

Oepn Air Preaching Staple Center

Me & Tony moved across the street to the Staple Center side at the back entrance where Tony got up on the box and open air preached a guy by the name of Tommy walked up and had a conversation with Tony. He professed to be an atheist. Read Tony's blog for more detail.

WeHo Gay Pride Parade 2008

Weho Gay Pride Parade 2008

Something I didn't expect to be doing on a Sunday was to be at a Gay Parade. My friend Dru happened to be working at a booth in West Hollywood and asked me to come down and we would walk through the event and distribute Gospel Tracts to the crowd. I loaded up my backpack with gospel tracts, my amplifier and foldaway step stool just incase I decided to do some open air preaching.

WeHo Pride Parade 2008

When I got down to West Hollywood it was very difficult to find a parking spot so I had to park several blocks away. I met up with Dru at the front entrance of the Parade festival and we surveyed the place before handing out any tracts. It was a sad sight to see churches there that were supportive of the gay life style. My thought is that these churches have diverted from the truth of Gods word and exchanged it for a lie.

Weho Pride Parade 2008 Evangelism

Me & Dru went to the main street that is blocked off for the Parade and pulled out the Giant Money tracts and we began walking along the outskirts of the Parade handing them to everyone that would take one. Me & Dru were not sure what kind of reaction we were going to get after people discovered what we were actually handing out & that we were Christians. We never intended to confront a persons sexual preference but instead would use the 10 Cannons of God's law to bring conviction of sin. As Ray Comfort has taught, you witness to a gay person the same way you would witness to a straight person or any other person for that matter.

WeHo Pride Parade 2008

The music was loud and there were thousands of people so the Giant Money went quickly and I switched to the Charles Spurgeon Million Dollar Bill tracts and people really liked getting a million dollar bill. As I offered one lady a tract near the end of the event she leaned over to me and told me she had read the Giant Money tract and knew what it was about and also gester as to agree with what we were doing out there.

WeHo Pride Parade 2008

The purpose of me & Dru being out there was no different from any other place we go and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. All of us will one day stand before a Holy, Righteous & Just God who will not allow us into heaven because we say were sorry or because we have tried to be a good person. God's word says that none of us are good, not even one, that all our righteous acts are like a filthy rag before God.

WeHo Pride Parade 2008

All of us as sinners are capable of committing depraved acts of sin. But realize that the most trivial act of disobedience toward God such as telling just one lie is punishable by eternity in the lake of fire (Revelations 21:8). Jesus tells us that unless we repent from our sins we will perish and that by faith we must put our trust in Jesus alone for our salvation. If you've stumbled upon this blog and want to know more then take The Good Person Test and see where you stand before God because it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.

Most Expensive Place On Earth

So the weekend of June 1st I was asked by my sister and brother-in-law to come to Disneyland to celebrate my nephews 3rd birthday. To be honest, I wasn't really excited about going to the so called "Happiest place on earth" because it's definitely far from that, the title of this blog should give you a clear idea what I really think. Don't get me wrong, if I was a kid, I would be overwhelmed with joy and excitment of going to Disneyland but would be completely oblivious to the amount of money that it cost and the sacrifice that my parents would make physically for taking me there. Ofcourse now that i'm an adult I can look at things from a different perspective not only as an adult but also as a believer in Jesus Christ.

I decided to make the best of things so I brought gospel tracts along with me and as we walked through the park and stood in line I would drop tracts to the ground and place them in strategic locations where people would pick them up.

woman disneyland 01

At City Hall, I set a tract on the concrete ledge and watched from a distance and a lady and her daughter noticed the gospel tract that I had left on the ledge and stood there for a couple of minutes staring at the bill just laying there and eventually picked up the bill and walked away with a smile on her face.

woman disneyland

I kinda feel sorry for my brother-in-law because sometimes when I dropped a gospel tract on the ground a person would pick it up and run back to him try to give it back to him because they thought he dropped it. This happened atleast 3 times so decided I would be more careful not to place them any where near my brother-in-law.

Towards the end of the day near Star Tours I let a tract drop to the ground and as we began to leave some guy walked up and picked up the tract and with a condescending voice told his friend, "Just what I thought, it's another one of those tracts. This sets a such a bad example for Christians". I wasn't surprised by his reaction but i didn't say anything because I didn't want to draw attention to myself and end up in an argument with someone that clearly doesn't understand that the word of God accomplishes what pleases God and not man, so i held my tongue so that I could get more tracts out and hoped that the man would read the gospel tract and become humbled by the law of God and repent from his sins and put his faith & trust in our Lord Jesus Christ. Faith comes by hearing and by hearing the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17).

After hearing how Mark Spence, the dean of the School of Biblical Evangelism picked up a gospel tract off the ground, read it, got saved and is now apart of the LivingWaters team has inspired me that simply leaving a tract for someone else to pick up and read is not in vain. It is the power of God unto salvation.

As the day ended, I was noticably tired because of the Ambassador's Academy on Saturday in Huntington Beach had really taken a toll on me. I wasn't really happy with myself taking a day off from Church to attend Disneyland but I used that time to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.
